About

HotSpringSpot is a field guide to the world’s hot springs — natural pools, thermal resorts and public baths, mapped and matched to how you like to travel.

We started it because the best travel days end in hot water, and finding that water shouldn’t require seventeen open tabs. Every listing covers the practical stuff (temperature, entry, access, what to wear) plus the honest detail you’d get from a friend who’s been.

Why you can trust HotSpringSpot

HotSpringSpot is an independent guide to the world’s hot springs. Every spring page is written by our editors from verifiable sources: official operator websites for prices and hours, published coordinates, and licensed photography with attribution. Where we could not verify something, we say so plainly instead of guessing.

  • Admission prices and opening hours are checked against official operator sites and carry a checked-on date.
  • Unknown details are marked as unknown, never filled in.
  • Photos come from licensed sources and every photographer is credited.
  • Guides are reviewed when facts change, and the checked-on date shows when that last happened.

The team

HotSpringSpot’s guides are written and maintained by our small editorial team, each covering the regions they know best:

Aiko Mori — Asia Editor

Aiko leads HotSpringSpot’s coverage of Asia’s hot springs, from Japan’s onsen towns to Taiwan’s mountain bathhouses. Her guides focus on bathing etiquette, seasonal access, and telling genuine thermal water apart from heated resort pools.

Elena Fischer — Europe Editor

Elena covers Europe’s thermal baths, from Budapest’s grand bathhouses to Iceland’s geothermal lagoons and the Alpine spa towns. She writes about prices, booking quirks, and which famous baths are worth the queue.

Marcus Webb — North America Editor

Marcus covers hot springs across the United States and Canada, with a soft spot for backcountry soaks that take effort to reach. His guides stress road conditions, permits, and leave-no-trace practice.

Sofia Almeida — South America Editor

Sofia covers South America’s thermal springs, from the Andes to the southern cone. She focuses on practical logistics: how to get there, what things cost, and when the weather makes or breaks a visit.

Jack Callaghan — Oceania Editor

Jack covers Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific’s hot springs, from Rotorua’s geothermal parks to remote outback bores. His guides keep a close eye on seasonal closures and water temperatures.

Amara Diallo — Africa & Middle East Editor

Amara covers Africa and the Middle East’s thermal springs, a region where good visitor information is hardest to find. Her guides prioritise verified access details and honest notes on what we could not confirm.
