Choose your kind of soak

Whether you're traveling with family, seeking a quiet retreat, or looking for mineral-rich waters, India has a spring for you.

India's 5 listings are Himalayan: Manikaran's sacred springs in Parvati Valley, where temples cook rice in the boiling source, and Vashisht's stone baths above Manali. Thermal water as pilgrimage.

How to reach India's hot springs

Delhi, then overnight bus or flight to Kullu/Bhuntar for Parvati Valley and Manali. The mountain roads are spectacular and slow.

Where India's springs cluster

  • Parvati Valley (Manikaran) — Sacred Sikh and Hindu springs; the water cooks the langar rice.
  • Manali (Vashisht) — Ancient stone baths in a traditional village above town.

Best time to visit

March–June and September–November. Monsoon (July–August) brings landslide risk on mountain roads; winter is very cold.

Good to know

These are sacred sites, dress modestly, remove shoes where required, and respect temple customs. The water at Manikaran's source is boiling: bathe only in the regulated pools. Altitude and mountain roads demand respect.
